Townsend Tea Table

Winterthur Collection

The original of this tea table, displayed in the Chinese Parlor, was made between 1785 and 1800 in the shop of John Townsend, one of America’s premier shops in Rhode Island. Kindel’s reproduction is crafted of Mahogany solids and figured veneers and features an elegant pierced fretwork gallery on the top, cross-hatching along the bottom of the apron, straight legs with stop-fluting, pierced brackets, and pierced stretchers.
