Since our beginning in 1901, it has been the goal of Kindel Furniture Company to provide the highest quality furniture in the world. We believe it is our responsibility to execute furniture craftsmanship in the most sustainable way to protect the environment for generations to follow. At Kindel we continually look for ways to decrease our environmental impact. Here are a few ways we are making a difference:
Our lumber suppliers maintain a sustainability statement and certification through the NHLA, National Hardwood Lumber Association. Approximately 65% of all lumber we purchase is domestic. Mahogany hardwoods, 33% of our lumber, are exotic and imported (Fijian) and are FSC, Forest Stewardship Council certified, which protects the indigenous peoples’ rights of ownership and use of land and resources.
All of our upholstery foam contains 2-6% renewable content, typically soy. We also use the highest density of foam to increase longevity and ultimate comfort.
100% of our furniture is made right here in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA. Purchasing local materials as well as building everything domestically in one plant reduces harmful emissions that are produced during transportation.
Premiere craftsmanship means using processes that ensure superior joinery and cabinetry that reflects durability, which is precisely how Kindel Furniture is made. Furniture made from lower quality materials and poor construction methods is disposable and will depreciate, creating waste over time. An investment in Kindel means an investment in furniture craftsmanship and longevity for generations.
